World: Barley prices generally softer due to support from outside markets
Global barley prices are generally softer as support from outside markets (e.g. wheat) has been and the demand environment remains weak, RMI Analytics said in their latest report.
French, Canadian, and Argentine prices are closely aligned, while Australia remains the most competitive origin in the world, proven by recent tender activity for malting barley being awarded to Australia and an upcoming tender is expected to reach a similar outcome. This leaves the other origins with a challenge to participate in global trade, but also with specific challenges to manage (e.g. lack of farmer selling, reduced yields, and quality to sort out).
