Barley news EU & UK: Barley crop forecast reduced on continuing wet conditions

A wet crop’24 growing season continues with further rainfall stalling barley harvest in certain regions. At this stage, yields are mostly determined but final quality is not yet fully determined. The current wet conditions are less than ideal for the ripening 2RS crops across Europe, RMI Analytics said in their late July report.

The experts’ crop estimate is reduced slightly, -0.4 mln tonnes to 58.3 mln tonnes. France’s 6RW crop harvest is complete, with reduced yields but with a workable quality outcome. UK winter crop looks good on average while Spain’s crop is also complete under mostly good harvest conditions.

Concerns about hot conditions in the Black Sea region are supporting prices, with French 6RW up and 2RS flat. Denmark and the UK prices are steady to down slightly.
