Ireland: Planning permission granted to expand Boortmalts malting plant in Athy
Planning permission has been granted for an estimated 4m overhaul of Boortmalts Minch Malt plant in Athy, Kildare Now reported on June 2.
The almost 3,000 square metre development will be on the existing 8 hectare site on Upper William Street.
Being demolished is a canteen building and two barley storage silos, according to the Building Information Ireland database.
Elements of the new malting plant being constructed include a germination vessel, grain elevators, conveyor gantries and barley intake silos.
It was reported previously that Boortmalt was seeking planning permission to extend the facility and increase annual output by 20,000 tonnes.
