Ukraine: Ukrainian barley remains competitive in the world market - in particular, taking into account the factor of low Russian barley exports, in spite of the feed barley shortage, which has been observed in the domestic market since October, along with constantly rising prices. This leads to the continuation of rather brisk export shipments of Ukrainian barley, UkrAgroConsult commented on March 14.

According to the official statistics, 3.48MMT of barley was supplied to the international market between July/January of the current season. According to the port statistics, barley shipments were at the level of 360KMT in February. Thus, barley exports totaled 3.84MMT between July/February.

In the first half of March, the capacity of declared and dispatched ships was also quite impressive, amounting to roughly 165KMT of barley, which will probably cause preservation of high shipments as of the month's results (320-330KMT).

The total volume of feed barley exports from Ukraine may reach 4.2-4.3MMT in the 2004/05 season (against 1.52MMT in the previous season), according to UkrAgroConsult forecast.
