News from e-malt

Russia: Russia imported about 21,400 metric tonnes of barley in January 2005, mainly from Denmark (5,900 MT), Switzerland (5,700 MT) and Lithuania (5,200 MT), according to the State Custom Committee of the Russian Federation, AgriMarket.Info communicated on March 10.

Barley export from Russia for January 2005 totalled 64,500 tonnes, decreased by 29.6% compared with last month and down almost three times from January 2004. Destinations are Saudi Arabia (46,800 MT), Cyprus (5,800 MT) and Syria (3,200 MT). The average barley export price in January was $112 per a tonne. Export sales for the period July-January of MY 2004/05 totaled 546,000 tonnes of Russian barley versus 2.7 million tonnes for the same period last season.
