Canada: Domestic feed barley markets absorb most of the feed availabilities, market analysts commented on February 28. The CWB counts on business of up to 200,000 tonnes feed and food barley to Japan, but does not play a part in the Middle East markets. Receivals of malting barley were larger than expected, albeit with rain-affected grayish skins and the danger of mycotoxins and lower germinative energy later in the crop year. Export sales were substantial, helped by uncompetitive offers from Europe and a poor crop in Australia. Quantities mentioned in the market are close to 600,000 tonnes to China, 50,000 tonnes to Colombia, smaller quantities to Mexico, South Africa, even Vietnam, and less than 200,000 tonnes to the U.S. Snowcover is good, replenishing moisture levels in the grain lands.
