World: Malting barley prices move mostly down with the exception of Australia
World barley price movements are rather mixed with malting barley mostly down with the exception of Australia which has seen a considerable volume of barley traded to China, RMI Analytics said in their latest report.
Canada has seen domestic feed barley prices drop again, continuing a sharp decline and export values are lower but remain uncompetitive globally.
Argentina sees a good crop but lack of farmer selling and limited demand present (e.g. China).
With harvest concluding in the northern hemisphere, there is more certainty around the situation faced for this crop year. Malting barley supply has been negatively impacted with lower selection rates resulting. As Argentina and Australia crop development is still positive, the overall result is barley prices moving sideways. Feed barley prices have bounced higher, narrowing the malting premium in the process.
