China: China imported 119,000 tonnes of barley in January 2005, about 63% more than in January 2004, of which from Canada 59,000 tonnes, Australia 61,000 tonnes.

During 2003/2004 China imported 1.2 million tonnes of barley and in 2004/2005 is forecast to import 1.9 million tonnes of barley. China produced 3.4 million tonnes of barley in 2003 and its 2004 barley production is forecast by IGC to be of 3.5 million tonnes.
