EU & UK: Barley crop forecast down 1.75 mln tonnes from 2022
Barley crop 2023 forecast for the EU and UK is 57.04 mln tonnes, a reduction of 1.75 mln tonnes from 2022 with Spains drought contributing significantly to this drop, RMI Analytics said in their early June report.
In a reverse of recent weather, rain has fallen in southern Europe, including Spain, but not in the key regions across northern Europe and Russian and Ukrainian barley crops are down in 2023, adding to the global decline.
Europe remains mostly stable in terms of barley supply but a slight decline in crop ratings and summer weather reminds us that there is a lot of time before crop 2023 is secured, the next 4-6 weeks are extremely critical.
