News from e-malt

EU: International Grains Council (IGC) forecast European Union, the world’s largest malt exporter, to ship 3.2 million tonnes of malt in 2004/05, unchanged versus the previous forecast, and 0.24 million tonnes less than previous year. Export licences have been granted for 1.67 million tonnes (EU-15) as at 18 January, compared with 1.85 million tonnes a year ago (EU-15). Shipments to Russia, in particular, were strong in the first months of the 2004/05 marketing year, but are expected to be lower in the year as a whole. Shipments to Thailand were running ahead of last year but are expected to shift to Australian origin.
