Ukraine and Russia: SUN Interbrew Ltd, a leading brewer in Russia and Ukraine, announced recently its plan to invest EUR 190 million in 2005 to expand production capacity and start new commercial projects. "The total amount of investment is EUR 190 million in Russia and the Ukraine in 2005," said Irina Dubitskaya, media relations director of Sun Interbrew. She added part of the money is earmarked for production activities and commercial projects, in marketing and retail. The group also intends to buy fridges to store larger beer quantities.

Sun Interbrew will invest 140 mln eur in Russia and 50 mln eur in Ukraine, according to Belgian financial daily L'Echo. The paper reported, citing company management, that Sun Interbrew plans to expand the plants in Omsk and Perm, and work will begin in the first quarter of this year. After the expansion, the Russian and Ukrainian business will have a production capacity of 16 million hectolitres per year.

SUN Interbrew Limited is the second largest brewer in Russia and the largest brewer in Ukraine. The company was set up in 1999 as a strategic partnership between InBev, the No. 1 global brewer, and the SUN Group, operating in the region since 1958, and in the beer sector of Russia and CIS since the beginning of 1990s.
