Australia: Barley production seen above 13 mln tonnes in both 2020/21 and 2021/22
ABARES’ crop report of this month puts Australia’s 2020/21 barley production at 13.093 mln tonnes and that of 2021/22 at 13.724 mln tonnes, H. M. Gauger GmbH reported earlier this month.
Private estimates put Western Australia’s barley output even higher: for instance, the GIWA estimate is above 6 mln tonnes, versus ABARES’ 4.4-5.5 mln tonnes.
Exports started well in the new grain year, November-December feed barley shipments totalled 1.54 mln tonnes, malting barley 80 thousand.
In 2021 Australia started shipping to new markets: Mexico received 175 thousand tonnes, Peru 120 thousand tonnes of malting barley. There were also major malt exports to Mexico and Brazil.
