Barley news North America: Canadian malting barley prices remain highest globally

Canada’s malting barley prices remain the highest globally as import parity pricing continues to prevail in the region, RMI Analytics said in their early February report.

The import of barley from various origins is helping bridge the supply gap but otherwise Canadian barley is removed from global barley export trade. Much focus remains on the domestic barley market where barley prices remain strong.

The feed barley market continues to be directed by imported US corn pricing, which remains strong due to higher corn futures. The feed barley market may seem weak at the moment as feed demand is weakening. Few heads of cattle are being shipped out of western Canada (due to poor feeding margins), reducing demand in the process. Corn logistics (rail) are in place and making corn readily available.
