Barley news World: Barley production forecast down nearly 11 mln tonnes

Global barley production forecast for 2021 is down nearly 11 mln tonnes at 147.9 mln tonnes in RMI Analytics’ latest report, and with most of the decrease coming from the major production regions. These particular regions facilitate most of the world barley trade and the smaller crop results create a very tight global balance sheet, the analysts said.

Presently the focus is centered upon crop 2022 production, where competition from other crops is making it difficult to expect an increased planted area for barley. It is critical to achieve a near-normal crop result in 2022 or the tight barley situation could worsen with any adverse weather impacts to barley production.

The barley prices rally appears to be taking a break (for now it seems), the analysts said. Canada and France lead malting barley, with feed barley well supported in Argentina and France. Australia prices are weaker as harvest is done.
