Brewing news World: China enjoys growing beer sales this year

China’s April beer sales amounted to 31.4 mln hl, + 1.7% y/y, H. M. Gauger GmbH reported earlier this month.

January-April beer sales were 114.1 mln hl, 34% more than last year (lockdown in early 2020).

Germany saw its April sales total 6.94 mln hl, minus 1.8 y/y; January-April volume amounted to 24.7 mln hl, minus 7.8% y/y.

Ukraine’s January-April sales totalled 4.97 mln hl, minus 1.3% y/y.

In the USA, domestic tax-paid April beer shipments were 14.6 mln bbls., plus 8.6% versus the same month in 2020, January-April sales totalled 54.3 mln bbls., plus 4.5% y/y. Beer imports in January-March were 8.7 mln bbls., plus 0.1% y/y.

Beer markets in Europe have improved well during May, in line with the opening of the hospitality sector in some countries. Further progress is expected. Beer sales in 2021 may still end up with a small minus figure, but should reach pre-corona levels in the crop year 2021/22, the analysts believe.
