Argentina: Barley crop estimated at 4.1 mln tonnes in 2020/21

The BAGE 2020/21 barley crop number for Argentina is 4.1 mln tonnes from 950 thousand ha, H. M. Gauger GmbH reported earlier in June.

The nations’ barley exports to-date are 1.74 mln tonnes, of which 1.24 mln to China and 432 thousand tonnes of malting barley inside South America.

Estimate of new crop plantings are 1.15 mln ha for a crop of 4.6 mln tonnes.

Argentinean farmers count on better margins than for wheat and a lesser risk of rising export taxes.

Barley seedings include 75% of malting varieties. Weather conditions to-date have been good for the new crops.
