Barley news Russia & Ukraine: Barley exports in July-February 2020/21 around 4 mln tonnes for each country

Barley exports in July 2020 to 25 February, 2021 were 3.8 mln tonnes from Ukraine and 4.0 mln tonnes from Russia, H. M. Gauger GmbH said in their March report.

Another very large Ukrainian shipment program to China is expected for the July-September period, local sources reported.

The Baltic Sea exporters, and specifically Russia, have been dominating actors in the world wheat and barley markets. This season’s bull markets have increased Russian domestic price levels to an extent that caused “food inflation“ prices in the retail sector. The government reacted with an export quota, followed by export taxes, presently at €50 per tonne of wheat, €25 for corn, and €10 for barley. But as of June a flexible levy will be introduced, 70% on the difference between market prices and a fixed basis price of US$185 for barley (US$200 for wheat). Therefore safe calculations for deferred shipment positions are impossible at present, the analysts said.
