Barley news World: Barley trade forecast increased in USDA’s February report

World barley trade forecast for 2020/21 is increased to 29.776 mln tonnes from 29.151 mln in the January forecast, USDA reported on February 9.

Export forecasts are up for Canada (+300 thousand tonnes to 3.3 mln), the EU (+300 thousand tonnes to 6.8 mln), and Argentina (+200 thousand tonnes to 2.7 mln), and down for Kazakhstan (- 300 thousand tonnes to 1.2 mln).

Import forecasts are up for China (+1.3 mln tonnes to 8 mln) and down for Saudi Arabia (-400 thousand tonnes to 7.2 mln) and for Iran (-300 thousand tonnes to 2.2 mln).

World barley trade in 2019/20 is estimated at 28.421 mln tonnes.

Barley production forecast is slightly up this month, at 157.36 mln tonnes vs. 157.186 mln tonnes in the January report and 156.58 mln in 2019/20.

Global barley consumption is seen at 157.497 mln tonnes (vs. 156.516 mln tonnes in the January report and 154.368 mln tonnes in 2019/20) and ending stocks are forecast at 19.819 mln tonnes (20.419 and 19.956 mln tonnes, respectively).
