Barley news Argentina: With barley crop condition very poor across some of Argentina’s regions, previous crop estimate now looks questionable

Barley crop conditions are very poor in the areas of Santa Fe, Cordoba and North Buenos Aires; still alright in southern Buenos Aires, H. M. Gauger GmbH said in their September report.

The overall crop estimate of 3.4 mln tonnes looks questionable, the analysts said.

Shippers booked 2.35 mln tonnes of export licences for old crop and 0.4 mln tonnes for new crop barley. Reported sales to China are 150 thousand tonnes of old and 380 thousand tonnes of new crop barley. Optimistic forecasts are that Argentina may ship 800 thousand tonnes of new crop barley to China, which, however, would require a large and good quality crop.
