Spain: Barley crop to reach new record this year

The Spanish barley crop estimates range from 10.3 mln tonnes by the Ministry of Agriculture (May estimate) to 11.24 mln tonnes by ACCOE (Grain Merchants Assn.) and 11.55 mln by CCAA (Spanish Coops). It is a new record, compared to 7.4 mln tonnes last year, and will lead to sharply reduced feed barley imports, H. M. Gauger GmbH reported earlier in August.

Exports of feed and malting barley by road/rail to Portugal are certain, shipments by vessel less likely, because the Spanish port structure is not well equipped for export shipments, industry sources said.
