Barley news EU: Polish, Scandinavian, Baltic barley crops look good this season

Polish barley crops look good after sufficient rainfalls during spring. In July/May 2019/20, Poland imported 125,000 tonnes of barley via seaports, probably 150,000 tonnes altogether. Import needs are anticipated lower in 2020/21, H. M. Gauger GmbH reported earlier in July.

In the Czech Republic, prospects had looked bleak well into May, but rains in May/June improved the crops to an extent that maltsters foresee no import needs in the new campaign.

Slovakia, Austria, and Hungary fared worse, any rains came too late to fully repair the damage on winter and spring barleys.

Scandinavia and the Baltic countries are said to be in good shape, crops ought be sufficient or even produce small surpluses.

Romania will have a lower barley production of doubtful quality, the analysts said.
