World: Latest beer sales statistics show declining volumes
China’s January-May beer sales amounted to 126.4 mln hl - 14% less than over the same period last year. The earlier January-April period showed a minus of 22.6%, but the May sales of 40.8 mln hl prove the beginning of the country‘s recovery, H. M. Gauger GmbH said in their latest report published on July 1.
In Germany, May beer sales dropped by 13%, of which domestic sales fell by 11.4%, and export shipments by 20.2%. The total for January-May is 7.8% below the January-May 2019 level.
Russian brewers sold 31.2 mln hl of beer in January-May, minus 0.5% versus the same period last year.
Ukraine’s January-May beer sales totalled 6.92 mln hl, minus 2.0% versus January-May 2019. The malt production is down 15%.
In the US, May sales were 14.2 mln barrels, minus 6.6%. January-May sales volume totalled 65.8 mln barrels, minus 1.8% versus last year. Imports in January-April declined by 4.5%, shipments of beer from Mexico saw a minus of 3.8 %, of which in April alone minus 28.5%. The Beer Institute warns that the figures are not final, there will be revisions for March-May and future months.
