Barley news World: Barley crop expected to be similar to last year’s record production

The world barley crop will be similar to last year’s record production, H. M. Gauger GmbH said in their latest report earlier this month.

Crop development has been variable, affected by dryness in large parts of West and East Europe, but favoured by timely rainfalls in Spain, North America and Australia.

According to the analysts, there will be a great surplus of malting barley, regrettably enlarged by a smaller malt demand after the corona crisis and the Chinese embargo on Australian barley.

Saudi Arabia purchases less feed barley year after year, however, in 2020/21 the larger North African demand will make up for the lower purchases of the Arab Peninsula.

Barley markets follow closely other feed grains in terms of pricing, industry sources report.
