Brewing news Taiwan: Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor Corporation to launch limited edition liquor and beer products to mark inauguration of President Tsai Ing-wen

The Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor Corporation (TTL) announced on January 14 plans to launch a range of limited edition liquor and beer products to mark the inauguration of President Tsai Ing-wen's second term on May 20, the Taiwan News reported.

It is customary for the state-owned manufacturer and distributor of cigarettes and alcohol to release commemorative spirits prior to the swearing-in of Taiwanese presidents.

Chairman Ting Yen-che said limited edition distilled spirits and beer will be sold to mark the occasion and that the company also wishes to supply alcoholic drinks at Tsai’s inauguration banquet, reported CNA. The designs of the drinks are being hammered out with the Presidential Office, and the production runs will be determined depending on market demand, he added.

TTL released five well-received commemorative items for Tsai’s first inauguration in 2016. The event saw sales of 2.36 million beers, 100,000 sorghum liquor bottles, more than 100,000 whiskey bottles, and more.

With a history of 119 years, the company is embarking on an image-polishing initiative that seeks to increase its global presence. The products will also be diversified to cater to the taste of female customers, with more floral and fruit-flavored spirits to be added to its product lines, for example, CNA quoted Ting as saying.
