Black Sea Region: Export barley and wheat prices increase in July-October
Wheat has been the price-driver in Black Sea and world markets. Wheat exports during the period of July 1 - 24 October were 14 mln tonnes from Russia, almost 11 mln tonnes from Ukraine, 2.35 mln tonnes from Romania, and 1.25 mln tonnes from Kazakhstan, H. M. Gauger GmbH reported early in November.
In spite of large crops, Russian wheat prices increased by 9% in September and again by 13% in October. Ukraine reports USD16/17 higher prices during October. Large purchase tenders of Middle East and North African countries pushed CIF prices up by USD 25,- since last month.
Barley markets followed the trend. Barley exports by 24 October were: Russia 1.3 mln tonnes, thousand tonnes to the EU (TRQ-duty-free), mainly to feed-grain hungry Spain.
The Black Sea price trend allowed all other origins, mainly the EU, to regain part of world wheat and barley markets.
Apart from some small dry pockets winter grain plantings look fair to good in both Russia and Ukraine, local sources reported.
