Hops news Germany: Germany’s hop acreage up 1.4% this year

According to official data, total hop acreage in Germany has risen by approx. 300 ha (+ 1.4%) and is around 20,400 ha now, HVG reported on June 19.

Of the total acreage, 19,773 ha are mature hops with the rest being baby hops. The increases are distributed amongst all German hop growing regions, the company said.

Major developments of varieties can be summarised as follows:

• After several years of major increases, the current increase of Herkules was comparatively moderate (+3.9%).

• All other high alpha varieties are decreasing.

• Varieties Perle (+4.8%) and Hallertauer Tradition (+ 2.2%) increased significantly after several years of stagnation.

• Acreage of most flavor varieties is decreasing slightly.
