Portugal: Beer consumption sees small increase last year
Beer consumption in Portugal last year amounted to 5.276 mln hl, or 0.5% more than the 5.251 mln consumed in 2017, Brewers of Portugal reported on June 3.
Average per capita alcohol consumption was 51 litre, unchanged from 2017. HOECA accounted for 69% of all beer consumed in Portugal with 31% purchased by the population for consumption at home.
Despite an increase in consumption, beer output saw a drop in volume 6.763 mln hl versus 6.994 mln in 2017.
Portugal exported 1.622 mln hl of beer in 2018, down 14.6% versus the previous year (1.9 mln hl).
Beer imports declined by 10.9% to 0.198 mln hl, the association reported.
