Argentina: Barley acreage expected at 950 thousand ha this year
The Bolsa de Cereales of Buenos Aires expects a barley acreage of 950,000 ha, of which 50,000 ha are planted to-date, H. M. Gauger GmbH said in their latest report earlier in July.
Soil and weather conditions are near perfect for planting, industry sources report.
Last years production is given as 3.74 mln tonnes by the Ministry of Agriculture.
Export licences granted by June 18 for crop 2017/18 barley stood at 1.138 mln tonnes for malting barley and 1.505 mln tonnes for feed barley. Farmers sold 800,000 tons of malting barley to local industries.
Early July quotes of new crop barley, Jan/Feb, FOB Bahia/Necochea were: feed barley USD198,-/200,-, malting barley USD230,-/235,-.
