Barley news World: Barley trade forecast for 2018/19 down to 28.97 mln tonnes

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) in its June report reduced its forecast of the global trade in 2018/19 to 28.97 mln tonnes from 29.37 mln in its May report.

Export forecasts is down for the EU (minus 200 thousand tonnes to 6.8 mln because of a smaller crop in Germany) and Ukraine (minus 500 thousand tonnes to 3.5 mln on a smaller crop, too), and up for Argentina (+300 thousand tonnes to 2.8 mln tonnes on an increased production forecast), USDA said.

For the current year, world barley trade is expected to total 28.411 mln tonnes. Export forecast for 2017/18 is up for Australia (+400 thousand tonnes to 6.2 mln tonnes) and down for Ukraine (-400 thousand tonnes to 4.5 mln tonnes). Import forecast is down for India (-200 thousand tonnes to 100 thousand) and Libya (-250 thousand tonnes to 750 thousand tonnes) and up for Kuwait (+200 thousand tonnes to 400 thousand).

Global barley production forecast for the next season is down to 146.962 mln tonnes from 147.572 mln last month (143.381 mln tonnes in 2017/18). Barley consumption is expected to total 147.776 mln tonnes (148.431 mln in May, 147.851 mln in 2017/18) and ending stocks could reach 17.734 mln tonnes (17.248 mln in May, 18.548 mln tonnes in 2017/18), the analysts said.
