Brewing news USA, NC: Uptown Brewing Company holds ground breaking ceremony in Greenville

Distribution of a local light craft beer is one step closer to reality in Greenville in eastern Carolina, WITN reported.

A ground breaking ceremony was held on May 1 for the $10,000 square foot production facility being built to produce Billy Beer at the Greene County Industrial Park.

Uptown Brewing Company plans to start producing Billy Beer for regional distribution in local stores starting this fall.

Billy Beer started as a pet project for the brewmaster who wanted to make a craft light beer his boss would enjoy.

The facility is expected to hire eight to ten full time employees with hopes to expand to 20 in the future.

Greene County Manager Kyle DeHaven says, "We hope it's a domino effect, and that it will attract more businesses, and let them know that we are open for business."

The name and design are plays on the Billy Beer from the 1970's which was promoted by President Jimmy Carter's brother, Billy.
