Barley news EU: EU markets seeing more interest in 2018 malting barley than in crop 2017

EU malting barley crop 2017 is still being quite neglected whereas crop 2018 has been more active this week, GrainCom reported in their bi-weekly report on January 26.

Spring barley prices of crop 2018 first came a bit down and then found immediately buying interest from trade and industry. Consequently prices recovered and look more stable now.

There is no question that we will have more acreage available for spring barley, but the question is how much of that is already in the price. EU’s barley ending stocks will be low, plantings still need to be done and more demand could come up in the coming months, the analysts said.

Srong demand for EU feed barley keeps prices well supported in spite of the strong EUR/USD. Feed barley in France is more expensive than wheat! Ongoing demand for feed barley should lead to higher prices in winter malting barley Etincel as well and if not, it is possible that Etincel will disappear into the feed channels.

Jordan announced a new tender for 100 thousand tonnes feed barley for next week.
