Brewing news USA, PA: Harty Brewing Co. to open brewpub in Camp Hill in fall 201

Harty Brewing Co. is coming to Camp Hill, PennLive.com reported on November 14.

For the first time, residents will be able to order a beer in the Cumberland County borough.

The once-dry municipality is welcoming businesses licensed to sell booze after voters in May's primary election decided to end the borough's dry status.

Harty's owners Michael Harty and Lauren Ishaq, who opened a nano-brewery in 2016 at the Shops at Walden development in Silver Spring Township, are taking over the former Mid Penn Bank at 2101 Market St.

The brew pub with a taproom will serve Harty's beers as well as Pennsylvania wines, spirits and ciders along with foods such as panini sandwiches and pretzels. They hope to open it in fall 2018.

"The bigger space came from just how awesome it has been for the past 11/2 years," Ishaq said.

The couple say the new brewery will add to Camp Hill's neighborhood feel and be in walking distance for many residents. About five years ago the couple lived in Camp Hill and enjoyed taking walks with their family to the library and places such as Cornerstone Coffeehouse.

"Market Street has such huge potential. I think this is just going to enhance the experience for everyone's Saturday stroll," Ishaq said.

Recent changes in the state's liquor laws permit the couple to open satellite locations and move manufacturing to the borough without having to apply for an additional license.

The new building will house the brewery's production facilities, giving Harty the opportunity to increase beer production from a 1.5 barrel to a 10-barrel system.

At Walden, Ishaq said, it is not unusual for a beer to sellout within seven days. The new facility will produce beer to service both the Walden and Camp Hill locations, she said.

The brewery will have indoor and outdoor seating and welcome anyone including families but will also operate a separate area for those who want to enjoy their beer without children. It also will make use of the bank's drive-thru as a pickup for to-go beer.

"Our goal is to accommodate anyone who wants to come in," she said.
