USA: Barley production estimated at 3.091 mln tonnes this year

US barley production in 2017 is estimated at 142 million bushels (3.091 mln tonnes), according to the USDA’s small grains report, released September 29.

That was well below the 200 million bushels (4.354 mln tonnes) grown the previous year, with average yields dropping by 5.3 bushels per acre, to 72.6 bu/ac.

Harvested area was also down on the year, the USDA said.
