Barley news Australia: Last year’s barley crop virtually sold out, rains in the west boost new crop prospects

Australia’s last year’s barley crop of 13.4 mln tonnes is virtually sold out. The strong resumption of Australian feed barley imports and the absence of competitive malting barley offers from France and Argentina has presented Australia with the largest annual barley shipment program ever, H. M. Gauger GmbH said in their September report.

Regular rains in the west, somewhat less in the south, in spite of a continued lack of precipitation on the east coast, give total crop prospects a boost. The expected barley crop is seen well above 8 mln tonnes. The September weather will decide the real outcome, the experts said.

Barley exports in November-October 2016/17 will reach 9.3 mln tonnes, and are forecast at around 6.0 mln tonnes for the new crop year, H. M. Gauger GmbH reported.
