Barley news Germany: Both winter and spring barley crops expected to rise this year

Germany’s winter barley crop, used for animal feed, is likely to rise 0.5 percent on the year to 9 million tonnes in 2017, the German agriculture ministry said on August 28.

The spring barley crop, used for beer and malt production, is expected to increase 7.9 percent to 1.91 million tonnes.

The Ministry also forecast that this year's wheat crop would total 24.54 million tonnes and would be 1.2 percent lower than the average crop since 2011.
