Barley news Argentina: Barley plantings much behind the best timing

The Buenos Aires grain exchange reported that 526,000 ha of barley had been planted in Argentina by the beginning of August vs. intended 800,000, planting is much behind the best timing, H. M. Gauger GmbH said.

Old crop barley is virtually sold out after export shipments of 1.75 mln tonnes. The IGC predicts a new crop of 3.1 mln tonnes after 3.3 mln last year, which looks optimistic. The market for new crop barley is very firm, USD 190,- for feed and 220,- for malting barley FOB seaport.

In the meantime, Parana, the major Brazilian barley region, suffers from a three months dryness, it is reported.
