Barley news France: Both winter and spring barley output seen higher this year

Agreste’s latest production estimates put winter barley output at 9.648 mln tonnes this year (last year 8.389), spring barley at 2.514 mln tonnes (versus 2.046 mln tonnes last year), H. M. Gauger GmbH said in their August report.

Harvest of both winter and spring barley in France is finished. Average guesses of selectable malting barley are: winter 2.5 mln tonnes, spring barley 1.65 mln tonnes. Yields and calibration of both winter and spring barley are quite good. Protein of winter barley is high, average is estimated at 11.7 – 11.8%, in the northeast 12.0 – 12.5%. All spring barley specifications are surprisingly good. France has re-established its position as No. 1 malting barley supplier in the EU, the Gauger analysts said.
