USA, LA: Port Orleans Brewing Co. joins New Orleans craft beer scene
New Orleans gained another brewery on Tuesday (May 9) when Port Orleans Brewing Co. began pouring its beers. The restaurant Stokehold also opened that day inside the brewery's tap room, NOLA.com reported.
Port Orleans will focus on easy-to-drink ales and lagers. The first three beers, available at the tap room and on draft around town, are Storyville IPA, Slack Water Brown Ale and Riverfront Lager, the last a malty, Munich style Helles. Cans will be released in August or September.
The brewery, for a start-up, is big. It has a 30-barrel system. Richard Thomas, owner of Blue Runner Foods and a home brewer, is the force behind the brewery. He drafted five friends, including Saints offensive tackle Zack Strief, as partners. The team recruited brewmaster Brian Allen, of Mothers Brewing Company in Springfield, Mo., to oversee the beer production.
