World: Barley crops this campaign start with poor results in France and end with a record in Australia

The barley crops of the year had started with a small and poor quality crop in France, good crops in Eastern Europe and North America, and ended with a record in Australia, H. M. Gauger GmbH said in their March report.

Import demand dropped in China and Saudi Arabia, the analysts estimate.

July/Dec shipments of the major barley exporters were down to 13.3 mln tonnes from 16 mln a year ago. EU exports in July/Feb 21 even dropped to less than 3 mln tonnes vs. 7.2 mln last year. Nevertheless market prices improved lately, as EU stocks are low, the Russian and Ukrainian export surplus exhausted, and Australian shipments limited by port capacities/ shipment slots.
