Brewing news Panama: Heineken and Anheuser-Busch to brew Budweiser in Panama

Heineken and Anheuser-Busch will begin brewing and selling Budweiser in Panama, the companies said in a joint-statement, AFX News Limited announced January 30.

The statement said the beer will be brewed and sold by Cervecerias Baru-Panama – a 75 percent Heineken-owned brewery – under a license agreement with Anheuser-Busch.

Projected volume or sales were not provided.

About Anheuser-Busch:

Anheuser-Busch operates 12 breweries in the United States and several others overseas. Anheuser-Busch's operations and resources are focused on adding to life's enjoyment not only through the responsible consumption of beer by adults, but through theme park entertainment and packaging.

In the United States, the company holds a 48.8 percent share of U.S. beer sales. Worldwide, Anheuser-Busch's beer sales volume was 121.9 million barrels in 2005.

The St. Louis-based company's subsidiaries include one of the largest U.S. manufacturers of aluminum beverage containers and America's top recycler of aluminum cans. Anheuser-Busch also has interests in malt production, rice milling, real estate development, turf farming, metalized and paper label printing, bottle production and transportation services.

About Heineken:

Heineken owns and manages one of the world's leading portfolios of beer brands. Our principal international brands are Heineken and Amstel. Heineken is positioned as a premium brand, except for our home market in the Netherlands. Its appeal is growing in many markets. Heineken is the leading beer brand in Europe and Amstel is the third largest. In Europe, Amstel is positioned in the mid-priced mainstream segment, the largest segment of the market, and is available in more than 90 countries around the world.

Heineken is still brewed by the same dedicated company that has been brewing Heineken beer for over 140 years. Its unique, unrivalled recipe has not changed. Because of rigorous standards, the high quality of Heineken beer is the same all around the world. No matter where you are, Heineken always signals the natural, refreshing vitality of the brew.

Heineken also owns and manages a strong portfolio of more than 120 top-selling brands that includes Cruzcampo, Zywiec, Birra Moretti, Murphy's and Star. We have a limited presence in the low-priced segment of the market and our international and local brands include lagers, specialty beers, light beers (low-calorie beers) and alcohol-free beers.
