Brewing news Uganda: Uganda Breweries imports Pilsner Lager from Kenya

Uganda Breweries (UBL) has started importing Pilsner Lager from Kenya due to huge demand in the region, New Vision announced January 30.

The source said UBL cannot produce sufficient volumes to meet the increasing demand. Pilsner Lager is exported to southern Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo. East African Breweries is UBL's parent company.

Meanwhile, UBL's brewery at Port Bell in Luzira, Kampala, was shut down from January 29 to 30 to facilitate repairs.

In a statement, the company said supplies of most beers and spirits would not be affected.

UBL's managing director, Baker Magunda, said the company has the best equipment, spares and expertise to put the plant back into operation.

Magunda said processes like brewing and sales order processing were not affected.

"Every company and person with equipment encounters unforeseen problems. With the right expertise and spares, the technicalities can be remedied quickly. As soon as it is back in operation, the plant will continue providing quality brands," he said.

Magunda explained: "Our brands have grown tremendously. We want to continue meeting the demand. The growth has enabled us re-strategise our supply plan."

"We want to reassure consumers that prices remain the same," Magunda added.

"Once the repairs are complete, performance of the brewing and packaging lines will increase," he added.
