Canada & USA: Barley crop forecast unchanged for Canada, lower for the US
As harvest starts to roll forward, unwanted rainfall has arrived to both interrupt harvest progress and create some quality risk (pre-germination reported). RMI Analytics estimate for Canadas barley crop is unchanged at 9.3 mln tonnes.
The US crop result is generally good but the lower planted area has reduced the crop size to 3.3 mln tonnes (4.0 mln tonnes in 2023).
Prices are mostly flat as harvest is stalled and quality is being determined. The firmer CAD holds FOB values up. A railroad union strike may halt shipments to ports. Domestic feed barley prices are lower, as harvest begins to advance.
