Japan: All four leading brewers report beer sales declines in 2021
Four major Japanese brewers logged year-on-year declines in their beer and quasi-beer sales in 2021, due to a liquor tax increase and the novel coronavirus pandemic, data from the companies showed on January 6, Jiji Press reported.
Sales by volume fell 8.1 pct at Suntory Beer Ltd., 4.4 pct at Sapporo Breweries Ltd. and 4.1 pct at Kirin Brewery Co. in terms of volume. Meanwhile, Asahi Breweries Ltd. said its sales dropped 4.0 pct in value.
