EU: Barley production forecast to drop to 51.944 mln tonnes in 2021/22
The European Commissions Barley Supply and Demand Balance of October 29 puts the EU-27 barley production forecast for 2021/22 at 51.944 mln tonnes versus 54.78 mln tonnes in 2020/21 and 55.024 mln tonnes in 2019/20, H. M. Gauger GmbH reported.
Imports are forecast at 1.332 mln tonnes vs. 1.248 mln tonnes in 2020/21 and 1.893 mln tonnes in 1.893 mln tonnes.
The EU barley consumption could total 43.905 mln tonnes in 2021/22 vs. 44.422 mln tonnes in 2020/21 and 44.022 mln in 2019/20.
Barley exports including malt are expected to drop to 9.5 mln tonnes from 10.642 mln tonnes in 2020/21 and 10.501 mln tonnes in 2019/20.
Ending stocks are forecast at 5.219 mln tonnes versus 5.348 mln tonnes in 2020/21 and 4.353 mln tonnes in 2019/20.
