World: Barley markets needed new orientation after China and Australia dispute
World barley markets needed a new orientation after the Chinese prohibition of imports from Australia. Meantime Australia became a strong competitor in the Mideastern markets, and developed new feed barley markets in Southeast Asia, H. M. Gauger GmbH said in their September report.
Four major shippers - Argentina, Canada, France, and Ukraine (plus smaller Uruguay) - can sell to China, others like Denmark negotiate a new phytosanitary protocol for safe entry into Chinese ports.
After Canadas crop failure several sales of Canadian barley have been cancelled, but China has hardly replaced the quantities elsewhere. It is expected that China and Saudi Arabia will buy less barley than in the past, the analysts said.
