Black Sea Region: Ukraines barley crop seen up, Russias down this year
UkrAgroConsult forecasts a Ukrainian barley crop of 8.8 mln tonnes vs. 7.64 mln tonnes last year. 68% are harvested with a good yield of 4.11 tonnes/ha, H. M. Gauger GmbH reported earlier in August.
Exports as of the beginning of the month were 1.1 mln tonnes, about the same quantity to be shipped in the near future. Most barley will flow to China, sales stand at +/- 2 mln tonnes.
Russias barley crop is put at 19.3 vs. 20.5 mln tonnes last year. Crop results were very good in the south, however, grain yields are 25 - 40% down from last year in the Volga and Central districts. Russias barley exports as of the beginning of the month were 300 thousand tonnes.
