World: Barley trade forecast up in USDAs July report
Global barley trade 2021/22 is forecast at 34.277 mln tonnes this month up from 33.667 mln tonnes forecast in June and 34.257 mln tonnes expected for MY 2020/21, USDA said in their July report.
Export forecast is up for Australia (+900 thousand tonnes to 5.9 mln) and down for the EU (-300 thousand tonnes to 7 mln).
On the import side, the forecast is up for Thailand (+400 thousand tonnes to 1 mln).
Barley production forecast is down this month: 153.469 mln tonnes versus 157.176 mln forecast in the June report and significantly below the 159.742 mln tonnes crop forecast for 2020/21. Among the leading barley producers, crop forecasts have been updated for Australia (+500 thousand tonnes to 10.5 mln), Canada (-800 thousand tonnes to 11.3 mln), the EU (-1.2 mln tonnes to 54.8 mln), and Russia (-400 thousand tonnes to 19.4 mln).
World barley consumption is forecast this month at 156.229 mln tonnes vs. 159.101 mln tonnes forecast in June and 160.422 in 2020/21. Ending stocks are seen at 18.819 mln tonnes vs. 20.172 mln in June and 21.579 mln tonnes in 2020/21.
