EU: Barley production expected to be 3 mln tonnes up from last season
According to EU Commissions barley balance sheet of June 26, the blocks barley production is expected to reach 59.884 mln tonnes in 2019/20, up from 56.013 mln in 2018/19.
Consumption is forecast to increase to 50.306 mln tonnes from 46.971 mln in the previous season.
EU barley exports (including malt in grain equivalent) are seen at 8.824 mln tonnes vs. 7.3 mln and ending stocks at 6.905 mln tonnes vs. 5.93 mln in 2018/19.
New crop barley export sales were disappointingly small to-date, EU prices are not competitive with the offers from the Black Sea. There is little chance that EU barley will be shipped to Saudi Arabia on the recent SAGO purchase, the H. M. Gauger GmbH analysts said.
