EU: Barley crop developed very well from planting till early June
EUs winter and spring barley developed very well from planting till early June. The month of May had been cool and rainy, ideal for grains. The heat wave of late June did affect crops, but they had advanced to a point, where the weather impact was limited, H. M. Gauger GmbH reported earlier this month.
Winter barley results in France are extremely good, while later harvest regions (e.g. East Germany) report minor problems, lower yields and small kernels. The risk is greater for spring barley, but even for this later crop the expectations are still quite positive.
It is important that the whole north of the EU, from Ireland thru Scandinavia to the Baltic States experienced cooler temperatures and more frequent showers than the middle of the continent. Under the present weather, harvest is advancing fast, moisture and sanitary condition of the harvested barley are excellent.
