Brewing news USA: Beer industry revenue in the U.S. in 2005 and its foreign trade

The brewing industry’s revenue for the year 2005 was approximately $20,790,000,000, according to Business Wire, February 19. The gross profit was 53.91% at $11,207,889,000. There were 375 establishments in this industry that year. Thus, average contribution (or revenue) per establishment annually was $55,452,000.

The total import export value for the year 2005 was $3,694,214,000. The top 5 trading countries were: Mexico, $1,482,227,000 (40.12%); Netherlands, $1,023,998,000 (27.72%); Canada, $340,154,000 (9.21%); Germany, $185,350,000 (5.02%); and Ireland, $163,600,000 (4.43%). Their combined total represents approximately 87% of all imports and exports.

The total importing value for the year 2005 was $3,373,265,000. The top 5 importing countries were: Mexico, $1,406,475,000 (41.69%); Netherlands, $1,018,964,000 (30.21%); Canada, $252,893,000 (7.50%); Germany, $182,507,000 (5.41%); and United Kingdom, $146,865,000 (4.35%). Their combined total represents approximately 89% of import from all countries.

The total exporting value for the year 2005 was $320,949,000. The top 5 exporting countries were: Canada, $87,261,000 (27.19%); Mexico, $75,752,000 (23.60%); Taiwan, $22,719,000 (7.08%); Ireland, $17,899,000 (5.58%); and United Kingdom, $11,425,000 (3.56%). Their combined total represents approximately 67% of export to all countries.

Adding the import and subtracting the export, the total U.S. consumption value of this industry for the year was $23,842,000,000.
